Graduation Requirements

To qualify for a state high school diploma in the Darlington County School District, a student must meet the following requirements:



9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Graders

English/Language Arts

4 units

U.S. History

1 unit

Economics (1/2 unit)


Government (1/2 unit)

1 unit

Other Social Studies

1 unit


4 units

Natural Science

3 units

Physical Education/JROTC

1 unit


7 units

Foreign Language/Tech Prep Elective

1 unit


1 unit


24 units

 (Students entering as Freshmen beginning with the 2006-2007 school year must earn a physical science credit to graduate.)

Students must satisfactorily pass all subtests of the High School Assessment Program (HSAP).



1.      All requirements must be met in order for a student to receive a diploma.

2.      A Darlington County School District certificate of completion is an exit option, for students with disabilities who, in the opinion of the IEP committee, have successfully completed their individualized program.

3.      For a student to receive a state high school certificate, the student must: (1) complete a minimum of twenty four units of credit as prescribed for a state high school diploma and (2) have failed to meet the standard for all subtests of HSAP.
