Principal's Welcome Message
Dear LHS Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope this letter finds you rejuvenated, refreshed, and ready to embark on a new journey filled with learning, growth, and inspiration. As we prepare for this exciting new year of excellence, I want to express my appreciation for your unwavering support and continued trust in Lamar High School. It is with great excitement that we open our doors to foster a nurturing and inspiring learning environment for all.
In the coming months, we will build upon our established foundation, seeking new opportunities to enhance students' educational experiences. Lamar High strives to be an exemplary school by creating a learning environment where joy resides for all students as they are given opportunities to develop their talents and abilities to pursue their pathways of purpose.
Our school’s vision aligns with the Darlington County School’s mission to “Educate, Empower, and Prepare All” for an ever-changing world.
I am looking forward to once again having our halls and classrooms buzzing with the activity of students as they return to campus on Monday, July 31st. I would especially like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming freshmen and new students as they begin their high school careers as Silver Foxes! There are many opportunities at our students’ fingertips. As principal, I am challenged, inspired, and motivated to grow our school by developing every child daily based on their unique learning profiles. Likewise, I would like to personally encourage all students to become involved in the extra-curricular opportunities available at our school. In educational research, there is a strong correlation between involvement in school-sponsored organizations and academic success. Whether it is an academic team, athletics, student government, clubs, or other student organizations, we encourage all our students to be involved!
I envision a year filled with hope, excitement, and many reasons to celebrate. Our superintendent, Dr. Tim Newman, continues to bring direction and focus, and we look forward to positive results. Joining the Lamar High family are: Lea Brown – Mathematics, Stephen Burris – Physical Education/Head Football Coach, Prasanna Divvela – Mathematics, Tanika Gause – Science, Tarsha Martin – SPED, Jason Myers – Instructional Assistant, Susan Porter-Voss – Reading Interventionist, and Bonnie Wilkes – Nurse.
I am thrilled to welcome you all back to our school community. Let us embrace this new academic year enthusiastically and commit to learning and growth. Together, we will create a vibrant and inspiring environment where students thrive and reach new heights.
Thank you for entrusting Lamar High School with your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Marlon L. Thomas, Ed.D.
