Possession/Use of Student Owned Electronic Devices at
the Secondary Level
School Board Policy JICJ
A
student may use a personal electronic device prior to school, during, and after
the instructional day in designated green zones under Policy JICJ. The personal electronic device may be used
before school, during lunch, and after school, denoted by school day
bells/signals. Teachers and school
administrators may allow students to use personal electronic devices fro
instructional and educational purposes in accordance with the district’s
technology use policies (IJNDB-R, Exhibits 3, 5, 6, 7).
Student
owned electronic devices will be regulated in accordance with SC Code of Laws
Section 59-63-280 and Board Policy JICJ.
Students who violate this policy will be subject to disciplinary actions
as defined by the Student Code of Conduct – Policy JICDA and Students
Behavior Guidelines for the first violation.
For the first time offense, the device will be confiscated and returned
to the parent/legal guardian.
Subsequent, multiple violations and/or illegal unethical use of a
personal electronic device may result in forfeiture of the device, multiday
suspension, alternative school placement, expulsion, and/or prosecution
purposes. The school will not be responsible
for lost, stolen, or damaged devices.
