Course Description: Students will develop reasoning and problem solving skills as they study topics such as congruence and similarity and apply properties of lines, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles.   They will also develop problem solving skills by using length, perimeter, area, circumference, surface area, and volume to solve real world problems

Grading Procedure:

Assessments:                         35% of the nine weeks grade     

Classwork Performance:       40% of the nine weeks grade    

Mastery Checks:                    25% of the nine weeks grade  

The final examination for Geometry CP counts 20% of the grade.

Goals and Expectations:

South Carolina College- and Career-Ready (SCCCR) Geometry provides students with tools to solve problems about objects and shapes in two- and three-dimensions, including theorems about universal truths and spatial reasoning.

In this course, students are expected to apply mathematics in meaningful ways to solve problems that arise in the workplace, society, and everyday life through the process of modeling. Mathematical modeling involves creating appropriate equations, graphs, diagrams, or other mathematical representations to analyze real-world situations and solve problems. Use of mathematical tools is important in creating and analyzing the mathematical representations used in the modeling process. In order to represent and solve problems, students should learn to use a variety of mathematical tools and technologies such as a compass, a straightedge, graph paper, patty paper, graphing utilities, and dynamic geometry software. 

Student Procedures:

Follow teacher instructions the first time they are given.

Raise your hand before you talk, walk, or touch something that does not belong to you.

Be in your seat when the bell rings.

Sit in your assigned seats daily.

Bring all books and material to class daily.

         Follow all CDC guidelines for COVID-19/Coronavirus


Homework will be given daily and is usually due on Friday at 11:59 pm.

Tutoring Hours:

After-school assistance is offered from 3:50 pm-4:50 pm on Thursday evenings. 

Course Material:  

You will need a 1-inch loose-leaf binder/ notebook, pencils, a ruler, and a calculator for this class. I would prefer that you have a binder, however, a notebook is acceptable. I would also prefer that you have a TI 84 plus graphing calculator, however, a scientific calculator is acceptable. I would prefer that you use mechanical pencils; however, wooden pencils are accepted.   YOU MAY NOT USE INK.  Any work turned in to me in ink will have a deduction of five points. 

Test Correction Policy:

After a “teacher made” test is graded, a student may improve his/her score by correcting problems that were missed.  The student will be awarded half of the points missed for each problem when it is completely corrected.  This must be done within the time period specified by the teacher, on the student’s time, and in the teacher’s classroom.

Grades will be updated regularly, no later than Monday of the following week.     

Attendance and Grades: Attendance and grades may be viewed at any time using the Parent Portal.

Make-Up Work: YOU will have five days to make arrangements and ten days to complete make-up work.
