Textbook: Glencoe, Algebra II 

Course Description: Algebra II is an extension of Algebra I and Geometry. It deals with topics covered in Algebra I on a higher level with special emphasis on quadratic equations, word problems, real numbers, rational and irrational numbers, and linear functions. It also emphasizes topics covered in Geometry.

Grading Procedure:

Assessments:                        35% of the nine weeks grade     

Class Performance:               40% of the nine weeks grade    

Mastery Check:                     25% of the nine weeks grade  


The final examination for Algebra I Prep counts 20% of the grade.

Goals and Expectations:

In South Carolina College- and Career-Ready (SCCCR) Algebra 2, students extend their study of foundational algebraic concepts, such as linear functions, equations and inequalities, quadratic functions, absolute value functions, and exponential functions, from previous mathematics encounters. Additionally, students study new families of functions that are also essential for subsequent mathematical application and learning. In this course, students are expected to apply mathematics in meaningful ways to solve problems that arise in the workplace, society, and everyday life through the process of modeling. Mathematical modeling involves creating appropriate equations, graphs, functions, or other mathematical representations to analyze real-world situations and answer questions. Use of technological tools, such as hand-held graphing calculators, is important in creating and analyzing mathematical representations used in the modeling process and should be used during instruction and assessment. However, technology should not be limited to hand-held graphing calculators. Students should use a variety of technologies, such as graphing utilities, spreadsheets, and computer algebra systems, to solve problems and to master standards in all Key Concepts of this course.


Student Procedures:

Be in your seat when the bell rings.

Sit in your assigned seats daily.

Bring all books and material to class daily.

Homework: 

Homework will be checked daily and is scored based on completion.



Tutoring Hours:

After-school assistance is offered from 3:50 pm-4:50 pm on Thursday evenings. 


Course Material:  

You will need a 1-inch loose-leaf binder/ notebook, pencils, a ruler, and a calculator for this class. I would prefer that you have a binder, however, a notebook is acceptable. I would also prefer that you have a TI 84 plus graphing calculator, however, a scientific calculator is acceptable. I would prefer that you use mechanical pencils; however, wooden pencils are accepted.   YOU MAY NOT USE INK.  Any work turned in to me in ink will have a deduction of five points. 


Test Correction Policy:

After a test is graded, a student may improve his/her score by correcting problems that were missed.  The student will be awarded half of the points missed for each problem when it is completely corrected.  This must be done within the time period specified by the teacher, on the student’s time, and in the teacher’s classroom.


Grades will be updated regularly, no later than Monday of the following week.     


Attendance and Grades: Attendance and grades may be viewed at any time using the Parent Portal.


Make-Up Work: YOU will have five days to make arrangements and ten days to complete make-up work.
